You can prepare an immigration application yourself or choose to get help. If you hire someone, take time to check who they are and what they will do.
Check their authorization
Paid immigration or citizenship advice must come from an authorized representative. IRCC explains which professionals can provide it and how to check with their regulator. For an immigration consultant, check the current licence status in the College’s public register.
Understand the agreement
Ask about the work included, the fees and how you will communicate. Who will respond if IRCC requests another document? What will you need to provide? Keep a copy of the agreement and review the application for accuracy, even when someone else prepares it.
Be careful with promises
A representative can advise you, prepare an application and communicate with IRCC on your behalf. They cannot guarantee approval or give your file special treatment. A useful conversation should help you understand your options and responsibilities. If someone promises a certain result or privileged access to an officer, pause and check the claim.
